Awhile ago I was having a conversation with my friend Craig about the Green Lantern and how it would be cool to approach his villains from the vantage point of Jordan being a clean cut successful white American male in the 1960s like on Mad Men and what kind of people would piss him off aside from the standard thieves, alien invaders, and whatnot.
I picked a few of my favorite characters and re-imagined them as part of the cultural fringe of the 60’s, the kind of people that Hal Jordan would just really want to punch in the face so Sonar became a burnt out hippy in the vein of Charles Manson, Tattooed Man became a communist with crazy mystic Russian gulag tattoos, Black Hand became a Satanic nihilist beat poet, and the Invisible Destroyer became a drag queen. Just representatives of ideas that would have challenged traditional American values for Hal Jordan to defend.
After I was done I thought these really don’t have to be Green Lantern characters at all and could easily just be a superhero team but you know… whatever.
